Atrial Fibrillaton
Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heart rhythm. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations, although you may have no symptoms. We perform Maze procedure, usually in conjunction with surgery scheduled for additional heart disease, for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. We also perform Convergent procedure for patients who are unable to remain in normal sinus rhythm despite medications and/or prior procedures.

How long does this procedure typically take?
Typically around 1 hour
How long will I be in the hospital?
Hospital course after uncomplicated surgery is usually 4-5 days for Maze, 2-3 days for convergent
Will I need to follow up?
You will follow up with us after surgery either in our office or via video teleconference 1-2 weeks after leaving the hospital. You will also need follow up with your cardiologist or PCP long term.
Will I need to take any new medications?
You will likely continue similar medications to what you were taking for atrial fibrillation prior to surgery, but may be able to discontinue blood thinning medication in the future.
